I am two weeks into playing NCAA Football 2009 and I honestly can say it is MUCH better than last year’s effort by our pals at EA Sports
…who are often maligned and rightly so in many cases. But 09 has so far been pretty fun and a fair game. I will say screen passes by the computer are way too effective and the in ability to get much of a pass rush can make the play tough to defend and really annoying since the computer loves to call it. Playing a zone will work better…but simply dropping a lineman and running him over to the intended receiver seems to work best. It can even result in a sack or two!
I still have yet to pop in last year’s to see if the graphical tweaks are in my head or the game really does look better. The fans still look good from far and far from good when you get close… but that may be my only gripe graphically. The added animations are a nice touch and I have paused more than a few times to watch a guy get flipped over or cut blocked…sadly most of the time it’s me taking the big hit. I have spent the majority of my time with NCAA and have played two and a half seasons with the dreadful Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe who have improved but are by no means ready for the BCS yet. But tonight a buddy came by and I tried once again to get past Zuma level 9. Needless to say for the 1000th time…it just didn’t happen. Someone e-mailed me and asked what this game is like. Well…you are a frog who shoots colored balls trying to get three in a row to blow the balls up. And you do this on differently shaped boards where the balls come at you from different angles. It sounds really lame and probably is. But you need to try it. There are free versions online as well as the free trial on XBOX Live. Download one and tell me how far you can go and if you become addicted. I am not alone…but can’t get past level 9!
I am headed back for one more try before I go to bed…wish me luck! And for you Madden Maniacs…the game is just weeks away. Too bad my least favorite human being on the planet these days is on the cover! Oh well…I will take Aaron Rodgers to the Super Bowl. Something I doubt ever happens in reality! As always let me know what you are playing and have fun out there!
