As parents we wait for all kinds of milestones in babies. At first you wonder when they’ll do anything besides sleep, eat, and cry.
As they get older your doctor asks how they’re doing with their hand movements, if they’re grasping or reaching for things, pushing up, and rolling over. At our last appointment with the pediatrician we were able to report Jordan is on a roll literally. He hardly stays on his back for a second before rolling over and looking around on his tummy.
Kristian just wasn’t much into the whole rolling thing. I think he was content to just lay back and enjoy the scenery as it was. Even when his brother started rolling over onto him he just stayed there uninspired to even roll away. Then last week he just decided it was time, and in one quick move he’d met the milestone. I actually missed the first roll, but thankfully our sitter wrote a note “from Kristian” documenting the occasion. Then he performed on demand again once I came home from work. Of course this is just the beginning of the road to mobility that will open a world of whole new challenges for us. Now that they’re rolling you can’t take for granted that they will stay in the same place you put them last. I can’t even imagine what it will be like once they start crawling, and from the way they’re kicking and squirming around during “tummy time” I sense that milestone won’t be far behind.
