Animal Cruelty is a misdemeanor crime in Kentucky, punishable with a small fine.

But the abuse of a Pulaski county dog named Romeo that was caught on tape back in June has caught the attention of lawmakers.

Representative Stan Lee has pre-filed a bill for the 2008 session that would make it a class D felony, punishable up to 5 years in prison.

It is called Romeo’s Law named after the abused Labrador pup in Pulaski county.

Studies have shown people who abuse animals are five times more likely to hurt people.

It’s a proposal they are anticipating will get overwhelming bi-partisan support in Frankfort.

What do you think?  Should Kentucky lawmakers pass legislation making animal cruelty a felony? Do you think people who abuse animals are more likely to hurt people?
