It's been the subject of legend and lore for nearly four decades... the Castle on Versailles Road.![]() The story begins in the mid-60's when Rex Martin and his beloved wife toured Europe. Caroline Martin fell in love with the Medieval castles so her husband started building her one in the heart of the Bluegrass. Construction abruptly stopped in the 70's when the fairly tale ended in divorce. When Mr. Martin died in 2003, Lexington native and Florida attorney Tom Post bought the property to finish what was started when he was a teenager growing up in Lexington. During construction, in May 2004, the Castle was engulfed in flames and destroyed. It was a sight to see and the talk of town. One more chapter in the mysterious Castle on the Hill was added when it was determined the fire was intentionally set. The fire did not stop Tom Post from fulfilling his dream to open a facility where guests can dine, entertain and spend the night in luxury. Facts About the Castle: On 250 acres off US 60 and Pisgah Pike 2 acres contained inside the Castle Walls 50,000 square feet Zoned as a Tourist Home/Inn 16 Guest rooms, 12 inside the main house, 4 in the outer wall turrets Amenities include a tennis court, basketball court, Bocce Ball, outdoor pool, rooftop hot tub, running track, shuffleboard, Fitness Room and Cypress Bar Castle Post is accepts reservations for weddings and other receptions, parties, small get-togethers and meetings. The Castle may be rented for a full day for $25,000 or entire weekend for $50,000. Guest rooms are $1,000 per person, double occupancy Mr. Post will open his castle at no cost to select local, non-profit groups wanting to host fund raising events on site. |
