It was the second day of testimony in the trial of Joy and Patrick Watkins,
the couple accused of killing a 10-year-old Winchester girl.
On the stand Wednesday, the medical examiner described the injuries Michaela Watkins sustained, including bruises, bite marks and severe burns.
The medical examiner said it was a blow to the ribs that eventually killed Michaela.
The jury was then shown a taped interview between the Watkins and a detective.
In the interview, Joy Watkins said her stepdaughter suffered bruising to the face during a fight she had with her the day before.
She then claimed the burns to her body were from Michaela taking a bath in scalding water.
The parents also said the girl tripped down a flight of stairs, then went into her room where she later died.
