Someone who survived the horrors of child abuse was in Lexington Thursday, trying to improve the protection of children.
Shane Salter overcame his own abuse as a foster child and founded "CASA for Children" in Washington, D.C.
The grassroots group acts as an advocate in the court system for abused and neglected children.
WTVQ News 36 asked Salter how to to stop child abuse here in Kentucky.
He said groups like Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky help people recognize the signs of child abuse and what the threats are to children who are being abused.
He said that helps the community become part of the solution.
"We all become the eyes and ears for children and we don't have the outcome that you all are experiencing now through this (Watkins) trial," Salter said.
