| Friday, 05 September 2008 10:23 |
The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department said Friday that a sample of mosquitoes it has collected has tested positive for the West Nile Virus. The sample was taken at McConnell Springs Park back on August 13th. This is the first indication this year of any West Nile Virus activity in the county. Workers were out at the site Friday morning, putting larvacide in all standing water in the area. There have been no reports of human infections. Health officials say the best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid mosquito bites. For more information on the West Nile Virus, go to www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/
