Man Shot & Killed in Self-Defense
Thursday, 24 July 2008 10:51

Police have not filed any charges against a Pulaski County man who they say shot and killed someone in self-defense.

Last night, officers were called to a home on West Highway, in Science Hill, to investigate a shooting.

They say three people, one armed with wooden club, went to the home to start a fight -- which they did.

After a short time, police say the homeowner, Joshua Pyles, got a shotgun and asked the suspects to leave his home and property.

They refused  and continued to make threats, so Pyles fired one shot.

One of the suspects, 34-year-old Jim Goff, was hit.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two other suspects, Heather Goff, 29, wife of the deceased, and John Strunk, 46, Heaton Ford Road Science Hill, KY were both arrested at the scene and charged with assault 2nd degree.

Pyles has not yet been charged in the shooting.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Pyles was acting in self-defense in protecting himself and his family.

The results of the investigation will be presented to the Pulaski County Grand Jury.

It's sad that a life had to be taken.
That is correct but the fault does NOT lay with the homeowner... It is the fault of the 3 criminals!
I say he exersized some discretion in ONLY shooting once!

It is not always a bad thing when someone dies or is killed. All life is not sacred, just innocent life. When the bad guys are killed it is a good thing for the rest of us. The tragedy is when someone starts to make the choices that lead to a bad end.

It's sad that a life had to be taken.

But, the context of the killing was that the attackers were warned with the presence of lethal force to leave after trespassing the victim's property with intent to harm him. When I say "victim," I mean the homeowner who was being threatened by the three attackers and not the one attacker who had been shot dead by the victim.

Anyways, the attackers failed to take heed of that warning and one of them paid for that mistake with his life.

In this case, what else could the homeowner do? The attackers made their intentions utterly clear that they were going to hurt or even kill the homeowner and possibly even his family.

And, there is definitely a difference between the attacker dying and the victim dying. The victim would've died to satisfy the petty whims of the attackers. The attacker died because of the not-so-petty desire of survival for the victim and his family.

It's good to see a gun related self-defense reported by the media. Kudos to you WTVQ! Anyone who supports self defense with firearms should join the NRA today, please! The gun grabbers in the United Nations will never cease.

It should be noted that the choice was taken from Mr. Pyles. He made a reasonable demand for these scumbags to take themselves and their deadly intentions out of his home. The fatal results are solely the fault of the three dirtbags. My prayers are with you Sir.

If more criminals get what they are asking for (killed by the would be victims),the crime rate will drop like a rock!
Luckily this man had a shotgun to defend himself and his family!
I feel all honest citizens should carry a concealed weapon for lawful self defense,I do,and so does my wife!

It is never a good thing when someone's life is lost, but this time at least it was not an innocent life lost. Bad guys 0 good guys 1

Nice. Anyone who assaults or threatens decent people should be shot by the intended victim, not by the police.
