John Calipari began his day by greeting folks who’d pitched tents outside Memorial Coliseum and ended it at Garrard County High, in front of a gymnasium full of fans. After a short speech, Calipari fielded questions from the fans – and asked for their patience as the Cal Cats learn a new system, particularly the much-touted dribble-drive offense used at Calipari’s previous school, Memphis. "And it'll be ugly early, I promise you. And they'll be writing stuff -- dribble drive, this -- I could just hear it. But you know what? It'll be fun when you get it together,” he said. One questioner wondered whether UK would engage in a home-and-home match with a school Solid Blue fans love to loathe. "I'd like to play Duke in Atlanta in front of 70 thousand in the football stadium. That's where I'd like to play them. Like to play Kansas in Saint Louis in that football stadium, in front of 70 thousand,” he said. In the meantime, other preseason events await: Big Blue Madness, for which hundreds will have camped out for outside Calipari’s office; and the Cats first inter-squad scrimmage. "It's gonna be October 28th. Just an inter-squad. Probably have 24 thousand there. You ready? On FSU South, to 11 states. It's a scrimmage!" Calipari said with a look of bemusement. Trackback ( 0 )
