Baboon Rescued in Independence
Thursday, 01 October 2009 22:55
altA baboon is discovered living in a Kentucky home.  Susie is a 24-year-old female.  She was just discovered living in a house in Kenton County.  But having a baboon in a home is against the law there, so Suzie was shipped to the Primate Rescue Center in Nicholasville.

April Truitt, director of the Primate Rescue Center says primates are not good house pets.  “There unfortunately are a tremendous number of people who hold primates in their homes as pets, thinking that they will be and stay cute and cuddly little infants.  Unfortunately they never do.  It's incredibly dangerous to keep these animals in a home where they can escape or come in contact with children and pets.”

For now, the concern is that Susie is too thin, she has spent most of her life in doors, and she has never interacted with other primates.  The primate center will help rehabilitate Susie.

To be resuced, or not be?
Sounds like people forget sometimes that not every cute creature on Earth is meant to be domesticated! It was stated that the baboon was to "thin" which is an indication of malnourishment. Exotic animals should never be domesticated. It's sad that our culture has become one that feels these animals don't deserve their most basic, fundamental, needs met: being a baboon! Last time I checked the natural habitat for a baboon isn't in a home in Kentucky! I am so happy that we have a place for these unfortunate primates to live out their lives!

Just because it's against the law is no reason to used the word "rescued". This implies that she was living in horrible conditions or was mistreated. How about this. . ."Police 'rescue' a man suffering from schizophrenia by shooting him"
