A lot of people check the classified ads when they're job hunting.  There's an enticing ad for a job with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that's been appearing in area newspapers.
We checked it out with the Better Business Bureau of Central and Eastern Kentucky.

The ad gives a phone number to call to get an application.  We called it and heard a pre-recorded message talking about the IRS hiring in this area with great pay and benefits.

Then came the catch.  The message said, "You will receive all these materials for an administrative cost of $38."

The offer isn't from the IRS, but rather a Missouri-based company called American Association of Labor.  According to the BBB in Missouri, there are complaints against the company.  Most of the complaints allege non-receipt of their package that they paid for or dissatisfaction with what they did receive.

Here's what you need to know.  You don't have to pay for information or applilcations for any federal government jobs.  Just go to www.usajobs.com.  You can search for positions, find out requirements and start the job application process for free.

Before you apply for a job, check out the company or agency first with the BBB of Central and Eastern Kentucky.  You can call the Bureau toll-free at 1-800-866-6668 or inquire online at www.ky.bbb.org.

Remember, if you see a "Help Wanted" ad, but you have to pay money to apply for the job, Don't Fall For It.
